“Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.”
-J K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The worst advice given during the last few years has been this: “Don’t be angry, it’s a waste of time.” And so for two years, everything was suppressed.
Then came the breakthrough. The counselor said it was perfectly fine and normal to be angry. In fact, holding it in for so long was causing it to manifest in rather unproductive ways.
I still live by this advice. When I am mad, people know. When I am sad, people know. And the feelings pass. By the nights end, I can look forward to the next day, setting goals, and pressing forward.
Don’t waste your time not feeling.
